our history

Welcome to the home of the Baytown Special Rodeo Association!  We are glad you found us and are SO excited to be back online with our new and improved website!

Our next event will be held on Saturday, October 14, 2023 from 10 am until 2 pm at the Baytown Youth Fair Grounds at 7900 North Main.  Many thanks to the fine folks at BYF who work hard all year maintaining a great facility and will graciously host us again.

Please take a minute to check out our Sponsor page.  These are the generous folks who keep us improving every year and insure a fun free event for all families.  We are blessed and humbled that they share their dollars and resources to support BSRA.

Another shout-out to our AMAZING and dedicated Volunteers, including the Steering Committee, Rocking Horse Riders big bunch, the Lunch Crew, Registration Team and the front line - Rodeo Buddies!  You guys make this event a fantastic experience and memory for the kids and we love you!

We look forward to seeing you all at the event this year.  It promises to be the best yet!  Please pre-register on either our Participant or Volunteer pages.

Hope to see you this year!

In 2002 several members of the Baytown Junior Chamber of Commerce (Jaycees) traveled to Jacksonville, Texas to participate as volunteers at the Jacksonville Jaycee's Annual Junior Exceptional Rodeo. The event was held in conjunction with the Annual PRCA Rode event there. The Jaycees, competing visiting cowboys and clowns decorated the rodeo arena, put on pony rides, wagon rides, stick horse barrel racing, roping and other fun activities for a great group of kids each year.

One of our Founders, Ron J. Harrop, returned from the trip so excited and touched by what he had seen, that he announced to the Baytown Chapter president that, "we WOULD be doing this event in Baytown!!"  The group got to work planning and held the first couple of events at the Texas Oasis Rodeo Grounds on Garth Road, hosted by Mr. Ralph Oler. The event grew by leaps and bounds and eventually was adopted by the newly formed Baytown Special Rodeo Association and moved to the larger covered pavilion at Eastside Honda, and was hosted every year by Mr. Oler.

In 2013, looking for increased parking and more room for more booths and activities BSRA moved to the Baytown Youth Fair Grounds at 7900 North Main. 2021 will mark the eighth year at the new venue and we are excited and looking forward to seeing "our" kids who come every year and first year participants as well!! Our volunteers often say all the hard work is more than worth it the minute they see the first smile on the first child's face.

We are blessed by the support of hundreds of great, hardworking volunteers, parents, sponsors and the Baytown community.
